Asli

Asli is another syncretic song based form. (Lockard 1991). It is characterised by unique Malay vocalisations and specific rhythmic patterns. It uses a combination of western and eastern instruments including the rebana, gong, tabla, harmonium, violin and bass guitar, to accompany a solo singer who uses specific asli vocalisation techniques.
