The mrdanga is a double-headed barrel shaped drum about two feet long used in Carnatic music ensembles in Malaysia. The shell is made of wood and slightly larger at one end than the other. The heads are covered with parchment and tuned by leather braces enclosing small adjustable cylindrical blocks of wood. The player sits cross-legged on the floor with the drum across his knees.
