The kesi is from the cymbal family. It is made from copper. Kesi plays the role of a completion rhythmic part in the traditional paluan ensemble. It comes in two pairs, one of which is nailed to a rack, while the other is tied by rope. Sound is produced by clashing one kesi against another. They are used in the traditional paluan ensemble, which is found in Kelantan, for example, in wayang kulit, mak yong and menora. The kesi is also used to accompany traditional dances like Asyik and Wau Bulan. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
