A piece of Belira wood is attached to the top of the coconut. This wood is covered with soft things like rubber, strings and others. The function of this wood is as a sounding body for the instrument. Kertuk kelapa is struck with a mallet that is woven with wool to produce a loud and long echo. Usually, the kertuk kelapa is played in groups as a past time or for celebrations. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
