Name: KERTUK KAYU
Kertuk kayu or kerantung is an oblong shaped instrument. It plays a hallowed role in the Islamic community in Malaysia. It is made from selected woods, especially jackfruit wood. A long slit is cut on the surface, which functions as the sound or echo hole. To produce sounds, it is struck by a piece of hard wood. Usually, it is hung at the balcony of mosques and is struck as a call to prayer. It has been a traditional instrument of the Malays in the Malay Archipelago and is used as an instrument for communication. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
