The tar rodat or rebana kercing is a type of frame drum. It has three pairs of jingles or "kercing" made from copper. The frame is made from hard wood such as sena, merbau and jackfruit. Cow hide is used for its drum skin, which is tacked to the frame. It is struck with one hand and is used to accompany the rodat. The word 'tar' means drum for Arabian, Egyptian and Gulf communities, indicating the origin of this instrument. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
