Name: GHATAM
Classification: idiophone
Origin: Indian

The ghatam is a clay pot used within the
percussion section of the Carnatic orchestra.
In the Malaysian context, it often plays alongside the mrdanga and
tabla,
which is different from in its original context where the tabla is normally
not found together with these other instruments. The ghatam is played
with the fingertips and palms, with a variety of strokes used. Only one
is found within a single ensemble.
