Name: CEREK / KECEREK The cerek or kecerek is made from bamboo and measured about 45cm long and 6cm wide. It is commonly known as 'clappers' with sound produced by clapping the sticks together. Cerek come in pairs. It is usually used in traditional theater like Menora, Mak Yong Laut, Jikey and Mek Mulung. During performance, cerek are used by a few players where each player will hold a pair of cerek and produce a unison rhythm. In this context, the cerek plays the role of time marker. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
