    The beduk is a single-headed frame drum which has an elongated body. It is used in suraus or mosques in villages to announce prayer times.

    It is struck with wooden beaters in an accelerating rhythm. Drum heads are made of cow hide. The beduk has the same function as the kertuk kayu. Muslims in Malaysia regard it as holy in character. (Nik Mustapha, 1998).
