Name: AWAR The awar are bamboo stampers used by the Temiar indigenous people originating in the Cameron Highlands vicinity. Each player uses a pair, one short and one long, held in each hand. Awar are usually played by women. Several players play in unison, stamping out a regular repeated duple rhythm, to accompany call and response songs used in healing rituals. Awar players also join in the singing, as part of the choral response. They are accompanied by one or more batak players.
