Tumbuk kalang is a ceremony associated with the pounding of rice, originating in Negri Sembilan. At least six players stamp mortar pestles into wooden troughs in specific timing. The rhythms are used to accompany singing. Stamped idiophones are also found among various other indigeneous groups in Malaysia, the most common type being tuned bamboo tubes or poles, and are called by various names |
