Music for Theater: MEKMULUNG

Mekmulung is a dance drama form very closely related to Mak Yong. Found in the Malaysian state of Kedah, it incorporates elements from other musical forms found there, especially the gendang tari inai, menora and hadrah. Instruments used include the serunai, 2 frame drums, a small knobbed gong, cymbals and bamboo or wooden stampers. (Mohd. Ghouse 1992).
